Tennis and Rackets

Centenary Week

Centenary Rackets Doubles Tournaments 23-27 April 2008

The tournaments will consist of a main draw of up to 64 pairs with plate competition plus an Invitation Tournament. All matches will be played at The Queen’s Club and St Paul’s School.
The inclusion of a plate competition for first round losers in the main draw will ensure each pair has a minimum of two matches. It is envisaged that the main draw will have pairings of fairly equal ability to allow good competitive matches. As a guide pairs should have a minimum combined handicap of 25. The tournaments are structured to allow maximum competitive participation from players of all abilities.

The Invitation Tournament will be for up to 8 pairs of elite players and allow a showcase of the finest Rackets before the evening festivities commence.

For competitors and non competitors alike there will be some fantastic off court events including:

  • The T&RA Golf Day will be held at Walton Heath (venue of the 1981 Ryder Cup) on Wednesday 23rd April
  • A Stag Dinner in the President’s Room of The Queen’s Club on Thursday 24th AprilFriday evening left free for less formal activities
  • The Centenary Ball at the beautiful Hurlingham Club on Saturday 26th April
  • A final's day Brunch at The Queen’s Club on Sunday 27th April.

Accommodation where possible will be arranged with hosts or at hotels offering a special rate to the T&RA in support of their Centenary. As much as possible will be done to make accommodation local and reasonably priced. Click here for accommodation suggestions.

This will be a hugely exciting and memorable event and a fitting tribute to mark the T&RA’s Centenary. We very much hope you will participate in the tournaments in some shape or form. By actively taking part you not only mark the last hundred years but show an encouraging start to the next!
