Congratulations to Oxford for beating Moreton Morrell in the Field Trophy final!

When team sheets were exchanged, some very close matches were expected, but in the end a clinical Oxford managed to beat MM 4-1. Mike Henman played very well to beat an improving Vaughan Hamilton, combining a powerful forcing game with some beautifully consistent backhand ground strokes. Next up, George Peel and Mark Fischel warmed up slowly, but once they found their range, they linked up well to beat Simon Hobson and Lloyd Pettiford.

Rob Walker had a chance to win the match for Oxford, but Tom Bomford played fantastically well to keep the fixture alive. Tom gave Rob no chance in the first set, but Rob dug deep in the second and played as well as he could have done to level the scores. In a very close third set, the score reached 5-5, and the match could have gone either way, but Tom managed to close out the game and take the match.

Will Morse succeeded in confirming an Oxford victory in the next match as he beat Patrick Sutton in a dominant display. Patrick had little chance against Will who gave no easy points away, and hit some fabulous winners. To conclude the day, Rory Giddins and Charlie Defries were in majestic form as they beat Philip Shaw-Hamilton and Martin Rogers. The Oxford duo hit the ball cleanly, and made few mistakes, rounding off a successful day for Oxford in true style.

Thanks go to RTC who were wonderful hosts, and, of course, to Pol Roger, whose continued sponsorship is very much appreciated.
