Seymour Meads win Fathers and Sons Championship

The Fathers and Sons Championship returned to Leamington in January 2008. This was where the tournament was first held in 1986.

The winners were Richard and Tom Seymour Mead who defeated Nick and Luke Danby 8-1 in the final.

This was something of a surprise, and particularly the score. Nonetheless, the match was closer than that and entertaining. The Seymour Meads, with court advantage, were determined to get a fast start and succeeded in doing so. In a single set match, even if up to eight, this put the Danbys under pressure and some errors were made by them as a consequence.

The handicap tournament was won by a Leamington pair, Ian and Edward Steele, who defeated a Moreton Morrell partnership, John and Jonathan Lambdon, 6-2 in the final.

Championship results from semi-final round:

N and L Danby bt B and P Holland 8-1
R and T Seymour Mead bt M and W Nicholls 8-5

Final: R and T Seymour Mead bt N and L Danby 8-1

Handicap final: I and E Steele bt J and J Lambdon 6-2

Nick and Luke Danby (runners-up championship) Richard and Tom Seymour Mead (champions winning 8-1) Ian and Edward Steel (handicap winners)
