Master class in rackets on Queen's court

Neptune Invitation Singles

14 - 22 November 2009, The Queens Club

Jamie Stout again showed us why he is Rackets world champion at Queens Club yesterday. His victory in the Invitation Singles followed a gruelling week of not only rackets but real tennis singles and doubles, in the British Open.

Having lost to the tennis world champion in the semi finals of the tennis singles, Stout was looking to make sure there were no slip ups in what was the first major singles rackets competition of the season.

Opponent Alex Titchener-Barrett was in good form, had defeated James Coyne comfortably in the semi final, and had been serving well with cut and pace all week. In contrast, Stout had been serving less winners in the build up, but made up for it with effortless movement and superior stroke play.

The first game went to a 'set to 5' and was almost 40 minutes long. Alex moved well and finished the chances that came his way, as well as making very few errors. Some of the let calls seemed to agitate Stout, and gave Alex the belief to take the first game.

The next game went to Stout, as the pace on court increased and Stout picked up his game. The quality of the rallies was exceptional and the packed gallery was treated to some breath taking gets from both competitors.

Alex had a chance in the 3rd game when he found himself 9-3 up, but Stout moved through the gears to take the game and with it a huge leap in confidence. The final game was dominated by the world number one.

Excellent angles, speed around the court and an immaculate length sum up Stouts performance. His ability to straighten the ball whilst dominating the 'T' is one that no other current player has. Alex can take heart from his performance, and has only to find a little more consistency in his game to push Stout all the way.

We look forward to seeing a potential re-match in the British Open.
