Barbara Baker has just been appointed Governor of Tasmania.
One of ARTA’s best lady amateur players (and former Aust. Amateur Champion) Barbara Baker has just been appointed Governor of Tasmania. She was formerly a Judge in the Federal Court. She will be referred to as Her Excellency and move, with her husband, into the magnificent Government House. She takes over from Professor Kate Warner, well known within the royal tennis world and brother of Dick Friend who frequently plays at both Melbourne and Hobart. Barbara’s father Bob Baker was one of the best amateur players at Hobart in the 1950’s. You may know that Miles Buckinghamshire (the Earl) has a subsidiary title Lord Hobart and has many connections with Hobart through the family history. He has stayed with the incumbent Governor during visits to Hobart for tennis activities.
