Virgona goes to Melbourne, report from the USCTA, match goes to the wire, 6-4 in 13th set

It was a real thriller in Tuxedo, as Steve Virgona defeated Camden Riviere to earn the right to challenge Rob Fahey in the World Championship. The best of 13 sets series went right down to the wire. Going into the final day, the set score was tied at 4-all. Virgona won the first two sets to go up 6 sets to 4. Riviere won the next two, setting up a winner take all 13th set. Virgona took the early lead, Riviere fought back to 4/5, but Virgona powered it up and took the next game and the set and the series. Final score, Virgona 7 sets, Riviere 6 sets. What a nail biter!
Final score: 3/6,1/6,1/6,6/4,6/2,6/2,5/6,6/4,6/5,6/2,5/6,1/6,6/4
The World Championship will be held in Melbourne on May 4, 6 and 8.
The spectators in Tuxedo were treated to 3 days of fantastic tennis.
Thanks to the efforts of Tiger Riviere, though, hundreds of other fans from around the world were able to watch the action online. Phil Shannon provided excellent commentary. At one point over 175 viewers were logged in and the chat line was buzzing! Phil was also able to get an interview with both Steve and Camden after the match. What a first for tennis! It was the next best thing to being there! Thank you Tiger! And thank you Phil for providing some lively commenting!
If you had a chance to watch the video, please let us know what you think. Your comments will help to add more features in the future.
Finally, Congratulations to Tuxedo for running a great weekend! The Tuxedo organizing team of Dan Laukitis, Rob Silvay and Josh Bainton did a fantastic job!
