Position of the Marker

Oct 05, 2011
In the interests of safety a formal review of the Position of the Marker was undertaken under the direction of the Tennis Committee

In short, it is recommended that a certain threshold of training and experience be achieved before any T&RA event permits markers to operate from the markers box, with the ability of players and type of tournament being taken into consideration. In the case of non top flight matches, the marker should be permitted to choose. For top flight matches those with the necessary qualifications will understand they may be asked by the players to mark from the markers box but the decision as to whether they do so is entirely for the marker on the particular occasion. Should the marker decide to mark a top flight match from the dedans, he is required to appoint an assistant in the winning gallery to call hazard chases.

The full review can be read below and includes the amendments to the Laws of Tennis, sections 20 and 21.
