Applications Now Being Accepted for the UK Rackets Development Squad 2025-2026
We are excited to announce the relaunch of the UK Rackets Development Squad, with applications currently being accepted through the end of July.
What is it?
The aim of the Development Squad is to set up a highly motivated, coherent and supportive cohort of players who are very ambitious to take their game to the next level. We are looking to develop the supply of top-level players, support them with excellent coaching and maximise their ability to get to the top levels of the game.
What are the benefits?
Top Coaching: Participants of the Development Squad will receive access to top coaching. This includes Peter Brake (technical and tactical), Mary Mckay (strength and conditioning) and John Eaton (mental and tactical).
Financial Support: Subsidies on racquets and support with the cost of playing the game.
Camaraderie: Working together with a group of like-minded aspiring individuals, pushing each other and challenging one another to get to the top.
Mentoring: Access to a Professional who is able to continue development following departure from schools, supplementing any existing relationships.
Champions Network: The opportunity to discuss goals, preparation and tactics with a former World Champion or Open Winner in the game, who can give advice and challenge where needed.
Further benefits such as sponsorship options are currently being explored.
What does the training programme look like?
The training programme is still being finalised, but there will be dedicated performance training sessions and practice hitting, and of course players will be expected to enter into the main UK events.
Expect to have 5 full days of development (September, November, January, March, May) and monthly hitting sessions built around the Rackets event diary.
Who should apply?
All applications will be considered. Players who want to, and believe they can get to the top of the men’s game, are encouraged to apply. Typically players would be between 18-25 years old, but decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
What is the selection criteria?
Previous record in Rackets events, dedication to the game, playing potential and availability will all be factors. The Professionals involved in the programme along with a current / former top player will make the final decision. If you apply and are unsuccessful, or don’t think this year is right for you, you can always apply next year.
How to apply?
There is an online webform to be completed, link below. Applications should be made no later than the end of July, with assessment taking place in August, when successful applicants will be notified. Successful applications will be required to pay £200 as a fee to join the squad.
