Congratulations to Max Under 12 Winner), Henry (Under 14 Winner), Max  (Under 16 Winner) and William  (Under 18 Winner)

British Junior Singles Championships

Day 1. The flagship junior event of the year, postponed from August got off to a flying start yesterday, The U12 event was held at Radley with Laszlo (Oxford) winning a 5-5 all, 40 all point against Algernon (Wellington) to go through to the final.

In the final he came up against last years’ winner Max. Still only 9 years old Max was determined to retain his title and pulled away after sharing the first 6 games to take the title 6-3.

At the same time, the U16 event got under way at Wellington. The final group consisted of Bertie (Queens), James (Queens) and Max (Seacourt) with James and Max going through to play in the final. Although James performed really well and shared some great rallies, Max was far too strong, winning fairly comfortably in the end 6/1 6/2 to take the title back to Seacourt as many have done before!

DAY 2

The U14 event took place at Radley. There were many fine performances but the story of the day was Henry (RTC) making it through from the first group all the way to the final. There he finally met his match and lost to Henry (Radley) 6/1 6/0.

Meanwhile at Wellington the U18 event was underway. After 2 qualifying groups the final group of 4 consisted of Willem (Wellington), Max  (Seacourt), Magnus (Oxford) and last years’ winner William  (Seacourt). The group was dominated by the 2 Seacourt boys who went through to face each other in the final. In the final the standard of play just got better and better. A great performance by Max who is 2 years younger than Will but it was the number 1 seed Will who prevailed after a tough match winning 6/4 6/2.

Thanks go out for all the hard work done by Chris Ronaldson and Nino at Radley and Adam Player at Wellington whose help enabled this event to happen under the most difficult of conditions. Thanks of course also to the T&RA who sponsored the event and to The Dedanists’ Foundation for providing tournament shirts.
