The American Real Tennis World Champion beat rival Nick Howell 2/6 6/4 6/0 6/5 in a tense match at The Queen’s Club in London.

Congratulations to Camden Riviere, who won the Sir John Ritblat British Open Singles that took place Monday, 25 November, at The Queen’s Club. This is the seventh time that the American athlete has won the competition, following wins in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023 (he also won the British Open Doubles competition those same years).

The Times featured a piece on Camden's win, which you can read here.

Riviere began playing Real Tennis at the age of five and went on to compete in the American Junior Squads, including the Clothier Cup team, and the Van Alen team. He competed as a top-level amateur during his early teens, winning tournaments such as the US Amateur and the Tuxedo Gold Racquet.

At the age of 17, Riviere moved to the UK to become a professional at Hampton Court Palace under Chris Ronaldson. He returned to the US one year later and became a touring professional based out of Newport, Rhode Island. In September 2008, Riviere became a professional at the Tennis and Racquet Club, Boston. He managed to rise to world number 2 during that time and won the U.S. Open – his first major tournament – on March 1, 2009, in Philadelphia. He has since gone on to win both the U.S. Open singles and doubles in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. 2023, and 2024.

Riviere first became World Champion on May 21, 2016, after defeating Rob Fahey 7 sets to 2 at his home court in Newport. Fahey managed to win the title back two years later but Riviere reclaimed the title again during the 2022 World Championship held at Prested Hall in Essex, England. A year later, in September 2023, Riviere once again retained the title, beating the first-time-challenger, John Lumley.

Riviere’s rival in tonight’s match was Nick Howell, an Australian Real Tennis player who was born in Bordeaux but grew up in England. His career highlights include making all four Doubles Open finals in 2023, winning the 2024 Champions Trophy, and receiving his first French Open Doubles title (with partner Riviere) in 2024.
