Ian C. Jamieson Has Passed Away
Longstanding T&RA member, Ian C. Jamieson died suddenly but peacefully on the 13th March 2025, aged 86.
He was a member of the T&RA for over 40 years and was a stalwart of the Sun Court in Troon, as well as a contemporary of Iain Tulloch, who also recently passed away.
Ian's son, Andrew Jamieson, shared the following with the T&RA: “Although he largely stopped playing after the demise of Sun Court, something that was a great disappointment to him, he did continue to play ‘ad-hoc’ when he visited me in London, at Queen’s Club, right up until about 80 years of age.
Failing eyesight, rather than physical fatigue, was his main obstacle, and he maintained an elegant stroke until the very end.
Throughout the 1980’s until the closing of the Court, he and my late mother (Elizabeth Jamieson, nee Guild – a former international hockey player) made a formidable mixed doubles pairing and travelled ‘Down the Road’ to play in the Billy Ross Skinner. My mother was regularly the Sun Court Ladies champion, winning the silver ‘Coffee Pot’ championship on numerous occasions.
They also played away in, and hosted, numerous Club Matches, taking in a number of the leading Clubs across the Country and further afield, and I remember in particular us hosting visitors from Tasmania when I was very young.
Regulars at the early Scottish Open Championships, they had the pleasure of watching a number of the ‘greats’ in their prime, battling it out in Scotland – Chris Ronaldson and Wayne Davies being the ‘Borg v McEnroe’ of the “Real” game at the time.
Being coached by Walter Gregg, Mike Gooding, Derek Sim and Peter Dawes in particular, my parents were blessed by talented and dedicated custodians of the game that left an indelible mark on their sporting careers and brought me into the game as a consequence.”
