Although the final was a slight anti-climax, as Ned Batstone beat Ed Crowston quite confortably, though in some good quality Tennis, the main drama had come earlier. Crowston had whiskered through the group by beating Huw Thomas 8/7, while in the other group Max Wetton had lost narrowly to both Max Jones (after Will Flynn’s illness). Harry Purton gave both Will Bristowe (3/6) and Ned Batstone (2/6) very fine matches without quite the weight to win. Ed Crowston, in the other semi-final, shocked the powerful Bristowe from 1/4 down and match point at 5/5. Then came the final!
