The United States Court Tennis Association (USCTA) has chosen photographer Timothy Edwards as the recipient of its 2025 George Plimpton Prize, an award given out for literary and artistic excellence in the game of Real Tennis.

Congratulations are in order for Timothy Edwards, who was awarded USCTA’s Plimpton Prize for his work as the world’s leading Real Tennis photographer. Tim has been capturing the sport for over 20 years, including major tournaments like the World Championship and the British Open.

"The lasting images of our game in the past two decades will have come from Tim's camera," said Jim Zug, during an awards ceremony at a tournament dinner in the Horseshoe at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The Plimpton Prize is annually given out by the USCTA for literary and artistic excellence in the game of Real Tennis. The award was created in 2003, weeks after the death of literary giant George Plimpton, who was an avid and skilled tennis player at NYC's Racquet and Tennis Club. The New York native was known for his sports journalism, helping to found The Paris Review, and as an editor of the 1971 classic tennis work Pierre’s Book.

Recent winners of the Plimpton Prize include John Schneerson (2024), Alan P.H. Chalmers (2023), Kathryn Ronaldson McNicoll (2022), Ryan Carey (2021), Richard Travers (2019), David Best (2018), and Mike Garnett (2017).

According to the USCTA, Edwards was the fourth photographer to be honored, after Michael Do in 2007, Freddy Adam in 2011 and in 2016 the founder of the Plimpton Prize, Charles Johnstone.
