Final Day 2

Tim Chisholm & Camden Riviere retain their title, recovering from four sets down to win five-four.
Camden Riviere and Tim Chisholm off to another flying start, taking the first two games of the fifth set. They can’t afford to drop a set today. However, the valiant home pair, Rob Fahey & Ricardo Smith strike back, taking the next three games and held points for 4-2. Great defence from the champions reel their opponents back in, securing the game to level at 3-all and then the next two to lead 5-3, won with a Riviere main wall boast into the Dedans. With the momentum, it is now the champions with the edge, and a Chisholm volley wins the game and the fifth set 6/3. This was the champions’ first four game run and provides the first signs of a second day recovery.
Fahey & Smith increased the intensity at the start of the sixth set, taking the first two games. The champions responded levelling the set at 2-all with an accurate Chisholm volley to the Second Gallery. A fired-up Riviere chased down the next three games to lead 5-2, with another perfectly cut volley into the grille to win the game. The local pair saved the set with a love game, 3-5. The ninth game saw the champions reach set point with another top-class Chisholm volley, only for Smith to defend with his own array of incredible volleys. However the fifth set point was converted; 6/3 to the top seeds, reducing the overall deficit to two sets to four.
A rare Riviere mistake handed the first game of the seventh set to Fahey & Smith. Two Winning Galleries and a Dedans winner from Riviere levelled the set at 1-all. More spectacular winning shots from both the champions opened up the score to 5-1, despite a furious defence from Fahey & Smith. Riviere & Chisholm sensed their moment, leading 40-love, and a Chisholm volley converted the chase to take the set 6/1, and reduce their challengers overall lead to a single set.
The defending champions remained focussed into the eighth set, taking the first three games without reply. To great relief for the home support, Fahey & Smith responded to stem the flow, reducing the lead to 1-3. Once again Riviere & Chisholm responded, winning the next three games to win the set 6/1 and level the match at 4 sets apiece.
The final set and Fahey & Smith are back, winning the first game, to keep themselves in front. However, three tense games later and Chisholm & Riviere have recovered to lead 3-1. A long fifth game is settled with Smith driving a main wall boast into the Dedans to reduce the lead to 2-3. They challenged to level but the tenacity of Riviere again increased the lead to 4-2. A top-class game by the challengers eventually forced a grille defence error, reducing the score to 3-4. Fahey saved a game point but then a Chisholm interception secured the game 5-3. Two Championship Points in the next game; the first defended by Smith but not the second – the champions retained their title.

Rob Fahey & Ricardo Smith lead by four sets to love
Home professionals, Rob Fahey & Ricardo Smith, started the stronger against defending champions, Tim Chisholm & Camden Riviere, winning the first four games, and standing up to the Americans' power forcing. Chisholm & Riviere rallied and worked their way into the match pulling back two games, but then dropped the next to trail 2-5. Both the challengers railroads were working well, restricting Riviere's dynamic game. A further brace from the champions brought them back to 4-5; but the lead proved too great with Fahey stepping up a gear to take the next game and first set 6/4, and establish the early running.
A tight start to the second set saw the pairs level at one game all, before the home pair won three straight games to lead 4-1. Chisholm & Riviere dug deep to pull back a game but the momentum remained with Fahey & Smith, winning a further two games to take the set 6/2; and a two set lead. The Tennis was however sensational, with six of the eight games reaching deuce. Chisholm's forces were defended brilliantly by Fahey; Smith was volleying superbly although Riviere seemed to return virtually everything, covering the whole court with ease.
Riviere elected to take the Smith service in the third set, but it proved almost a mirror image - tight opening game but then four in a row to lead 4-1; a stirring rally by the champions before local pair closed the set 6/2. Fahey & Smith would lead into the final day, whatever happened next!
The fourth and final set saw the champions make the early running, leading 2-0, taking some fabulous volleys from the base of the tambour. Back came the home pair to 2-all; but the determination of Chisholm and Riviere soon established a vital 4-2 lead, including an incredible 33 shot rest to win the vital fifth game won eventually by a sublime Riviere cut into the grille. However, Fahey & Smith came back again, boosted by the home support and levelled at 4-all thanks to Fahey hitting forced winners into the grille, leaving the final set in the balance. With ruthless determination, they continued to hit their winners and inched ever closer to the day's finishing line, taking the next two games (another four-in-a-row sequence) to take the set 6/4. The Tennis was breathtaking from both pairs, seemingly winning shots being met by actual winning shots. This gives the challengers an incredible four set lead into the final day's play.
