What's going on at Wellington

Sep 30, 2020
This is an update from Wellington Real Tennis Club.

Back in action: It is just brilliant news to have the club back up and running with plenty of members booking in games and lessons and it is now complete with the Wellington College students back in action. We had great fun introducing the Yearlings to Real Tennis - there is plenty of talent out there! It was also brilliant to see the rest of the year groups back on court in their bubbles so they can continue their development on the Real Tennis court. We are pleased to say we are back up to Pre Covid booking levels from early September !

Socially distanced Singles Handicap Competition Sunday 20th September: In the absence of home and away fixtures we have introduced Socially distanced handicap singles throughout September and October. Congratulations to John Amor who won through to the final group stage where the winner receives a new Grays racket. We also introduced box leagues this September for another competitive edge for the members. The winner of each league receives a prize from the Pro team and then the next round of winners provide prizes for the next round of winners, this can be anything from a pot of Jam to a case of beer, etc- we are expecting some very creative prizes from the chats we had from the members.

IiP: We had the privilege to introduce a future young Professional to the game last week through the Investing in Pros initiative. A big thanks to Giles Stogdon for a. supporting the scheme through the Real Championship Club and b. for introducing James Forrest to the game. James is in the process of applying for a place on the scheme! Best of luck!

We had a fun night at WRTC with the Wellington College Sports Department trying their hand at realers- Needless to say there was plenty of talent on court along with a lot of fun and laughter.

Under the strict guidelines for opening up the club we are pleased to announce the balls are socially distancing as well!!

Friday Night Pennant is back! FNP is back and meets all the new government guidance! No doubles, just short sets up to 5 games, all played off handicap

We are also pleased to say that we will be able to play the Davis Cup - Annual Parent & Child Doubles on Saturday 3rd October 2020 as pairings will be in the same bubble this will be able to go ahead as planned. We already have 6 pairs in the fun event and another 6 pairs in the serious competition!!
