Eight players entered this part of the draw with Robert Shenkman & Christopher Swan looking most likely to be the finalists.

This proved to be the case, with Robert fairly untroubled on his way there. Christopher however had a tougher time & had a close first round match with Richard Yorke- Long. In his semi final John Miller put up a good fight in the first set but could not convert his set point & went down 6/5 6/1.

The final looked one way traffic as Robert took the first set 6/2 . Christopher got his serve going in the second set & this seemed to unsettle Robert & he took the set 6/2. Robert got off to a flying start in the final set going into a 4/0 lead then 5/1 & looked to be closing out the match. However Christopher was not done & played some great tennis to pull back to 4/5. Robert to his credit stayed focused & saw the match out to win 6/4.

20-24

Only four players in this part of the draw but some great tennis played. First up Mike Henman v Tom Bomford; all the games were close with neither player able to get more than a game up. At 5/5 all it looked as if Mike might take it but Tom just kept getting everything back & in the end he took the first set 6/5. The second set was much the same with Mike wondering if Tom would ever miss a ball & in the end Tom’s consistent play was just too much for Mike & he took the second set 6/4.

The second semi final was a more straight forward affair with Tom Lewis beating Lloyd Pettiford 6/3 6/3. Lloyd (currently on the comeback trail) did put up a good fight (with each set being 3/3) & perhaps without Tom’s excellent rail road serve, things may have been a lot closer!

The final between Tom & Tom (marked by Tom!) was another great match. Bomford once again was the more consistent player & dealt with Lewis’s railroad well.

The turning points in the match were the four one yard chases that Bomford smashed past Lewis into the dedans! A very good final with both players playing better than their handicaps but it was Bomford who just came out on top 6/5 6/4 to win the Category C for 2013.
