26 competitors made this an outstanding weekend - well done to the RTC professionals for organising the event.

Report by Nick Wood:

With 26 entrants from around the country, The Royal Tennis Court hosted the Chetwood Trophy. Each participant had either won or reached the final of the their respective Club Handicap Singles competition, the Lathom Browne in the case of John Mather, the RTC representative. John squeaked through the group stages, won his first knock out match but came unstuck against young Nick Milton in the quarter final. With 58 matches played, the final came down to two young players, Nick Milton (Hyde) and Henry Mullan (Bristol). Sir Cliff Chetwood would be most happy to know that the game is in such good health with the excellent play and superb sportsmanship that both finalists demonstrated; in fact throughout the whole tournament all players represented themselves and their clubs in such a fine manner that the weekend was very enjoyable for all concerned. The final saw a 29 handicap difference between the two players, rec 30 v owe 1/2 30, a mountain to climb for Henry Mullan, and a mountain he climbed, taking the 2012 Chetwood Trophy 6 games to 4.

Winner: Henry Mullan
