*Field Trophy Final 2024

Mar 02, 2024 MMTCC - BFP Sir Andrew Hamilton

Published May 16, 2023

The Field Trophy Final took place on 3 March at MMTCC.

Petworth bt Cambridge 4-1.

Neither side was at full strength (Freddie Bristowe, Charlie Braham and Charlie Hurstel were unavailable for Petworth and Ed Kay and two undergraduates were unavailable for Cambridge due to a scheduling conflict with the Varsity match) but it was a splendid contest nonetheless. Steve Calder-Smith and Giles Gunning opened the proceedings in the second doubles against Andrew Petrie and Stephen Doel and, having taken the first set in style, were glad to win a closely contested second set to put Petworth one up. Adam Dolman then beat Jimmy Campbell in the first singles by two sets to love. Ollie Taylor then took to the court in the second singles against Charles D'Oyly and in turn, played beautifully to seal the match for Petworth in fine style. Ed Pearson restored some pride for Cambridge in the third singles against Hereward Taylor, who battled ferociously but went on to lose two sets to love. The last doubles was a fantastic encounter with some great Tennis played by both parties but it was ultimately Angus Williams and Nick Harris who triumphed in two sets against Jules Camp and Charles Harcourt.

Tom Granville marked all the matches beautifully and arranged an excellent buffet lunch for all present and Andrew Hamilton was on hand to present the Trophy and bottles of Pol Roger to the winning team.

All in all, a most enjoyable and successful day.
