With a strong draw of 8 professionals and 8 amateurs competing for this prestigious trophy.
With some great Tennis played throughout, the quarter-final stages, James Law beat Nick Warner 6/2 6/2, Brook Hazelton from New York beat professional Jez Brodie 6/2 6/3, both playing a second time, James Law had a fantastic match against fellow professional Tom Durack 4th seed with James pulling out all the stops to take the first set 6/5, Tom getting away in the second set winning 6/1, some close games through final set, but it was Tom’s day taking the final set 6/1 and securing his place in the semi-final.
In the other half of the draw, fighting for their place in the semi-final, Adam Player, the 3rd seed, took on Brook Hazelton, with a perfect first set from Adam, dominating the match, winning it 6/0 and racing to a 4/2 lead in the second set, with Brook playing well, fought back to 5/5! And stole the set from Adam, now into the final set, Brook kept his nerve and took the match 6/2.
In the first semi-final, the holder and number 1 seed Rob Fahey was up against Tom Durack, the level of Tennis stepped up a gear with Rob taking the win 6/3 6/1.
The 2nd semi- final, Brook was pushed hard around the court by the 2nd seed, Bryn Sayers, who was in no mood to hang about, winning 6/0 6/1. But what a great run by Brook in his first tournament!
So we reach the final…
The battle of the top seeds, a fast and furious match, showing the packed dedan and side galleries how the game is played at the highest level, with a very tight first set Rob came through 6/5, Bryn tightened his game taking the 2nd set 6/3, all to play for in the final set, having long games, Bryn stepped up and took the match 5/6 6/3 6/2. We were all privileged to see such a great game of Tennis!
