A promising line-up of entries from across the country assembled at Radley for the O60 Amateur doubles, with representatives from Manchester, Newcastle, Cambridge, Moreton Morrell and Petworth.

Nick Stogdon & Vernon Cassin defeated Colin Butler & Mike Seymour in a tough 8-3 to reach the semi-final, where they fell comfortably to Paul Weaver & Mick Dean. Robin Barlow & Terry Jones triumphed in the other half, beating both Martin Kelloway and Simon Johnson, and David Fortune and Andrew Falk, both in deceptive but well contested 8-3 score lines, before they lost heavily to Duncan Colquhoun & Philip Shaw-Hamilton.

The final, in truth, was the only really close match of the day, and saw Duncan & Philip depose the holders (Weaver & Dean) 6/4 6/4. The holders (Weaver & Dean) almost recovered from 0-3 deficits in both sets, just failing to win crucial game points for 5-5. Some excellent (by O60 standards) tennis was contested with many extended rallies, though the losers slow start (along with Duncan's seemingly error-free backhand) was just too much to overcome.
