Singles Championship

Defending champion John Prenn entered the event as the top seed and successfully retained his title and made it 3 in a row after a series of strong performances.

In the opening round, Tim Pendered overcame Julian Wilkinson in a closely contested match, winning 8–6 to progress to the semi-final. John Prenn then demonstrated his class with a commanding 8–0 victory over Tim to reach the final.

On the opposite side of the draw, John East defeated Philip Brodie 8–2 to progress to take on Alan Oliver, but it was Alan who secured an 8–2 win to progress to play Philip Shaw-Hamilton in the semi-final, and it was Philip who progressed to the final comfortably with an 8–0 victory.

The final saw Prenn face Shaw-Hamilton for the 3rd year in a row, and it was a high-quality match. Prenn’s consistency and tactical play proved decisive as he secured the championship 8–4, successfully defending his Over 70’s Amateur Singles title.
