THE BRITISH U20S PRESTED HALL 2011

The first days play was the ever exciting handicap event! With 16 entrants from clubs including Cambridge, Seacourt, Hyde, Prested and Holyport this was shaping up for a great day.

With two courts this made it easy to give everyone plenty of tennis in a round robin format! The day started with prested halls own Zak and Fin Ramjane 10 year very talented twins stealing the show playing some fantastic tennis (considering they could hardly reach the balls from the dedans) throughout their group.

The Gunning brothers dominated their respective groups both qualifying for the semi-finals. They both showed terrific composure throughout their matches combined with some beautiful shots it was obvious they would be tough to beat!

Julia Vermont and Lewis Williams (both from Prested) made the semi-final line-up! Would we be in for an all Prested final? I don't think so as Max and Giles Gunning dispatched the Prested duo to make it an all Seacourt and an all Gunning final!

The pressure was on Max (a year older than his brother) he didn't want to lose to his younger brother! The match started well some lovely tennis played with plenty of tension. Max raced to a 6-3 lead and he looked as if he would go on to claim a comfortable win, but anyone who knows or has seen Giles play knew this wasn't over yet! Giles dug in well and pulled it back to 5-6.. Then came the turning point.. after a long rally Giles trying to beat a chase of door hit a backhand from under the grille which clipped the ledge of last gallery and resulted in losing the chase and the game! Max went on to take the match 8/5 well done to him for playing such fantastic tennis under such big pressure.

LEVEL EVENT.

Number 1 seed Conor Medlow spluttered his way into the final dropping a set to Ben Wall on his way! Lewis Williams vs Neil Mackenzie promised a lot as they were both playing off 22.. However this was an all to brief encounter as Lewis's knowledge of the court and superb target hitting proved to much for Neil who went down 6/0 6/0.

Now onto the final the local boy versus The national amateur champion one winner? Anything can happen at prested and Lewis showed his quality desire and will to win by causing Conor problem after problem. Conor had just to much on the day but there were moments throughout the match where you really couldn't pick a winner. Conor went on to win 5/6 6/1 6/3. Congratulations to Conor whose win caps a fantastic season for the young left hander. Big congrats to Lewis whose improvement continues to wow and impress everyone!
