The British Under 15 & Under 19 Doubles Championships were once again held at the Holyport Club over the week-end of 27th - 28th March. As usual this venue provided a great atmosphere for all the youngsters, from the many different clubs, that took part.
The under 15 section saw an influx of youngsters from Radley & Petworth . After group stages the first semi-final was Rupert Boddington & George Buckley (Radley) v Charlie Braham & William Gordon Lennox (Petworth) with the Petworth pair winning 6-2. The second semi was Sam Willis (Seacourt) & Levi Gale (Hyde) v Giles Gunning & Jess Garside (Seacourt) with Giles & Jess just scraping through 6-5 in a very tight match.
The best of 3 set final was won by Giles & Jess who took the very tough first set and then ran away with the second to win the title 6-5 6-0. Jess Garside became the first ever girl player to win this event and is showing every sign of following in her mother's footsteps.
The Under 19 section saw two pairings dominate the event producing the highest quality final ever seen in this tournament. Conor Medlow (Seacourt) playing with Claire Vigrass (Prested) were hot favourites playing off 5 & 12 handicaps respectively. However their opponents John Lumley (Holyport) & Louis Gordon (Seacourt) had other ideas and powered their way through to take the first set 6-3. Everyone expected a big comeback from the favourites but it just didn't happen with John & Louis playing some fantastic tennis to take the second set 6-3 to win the title.
Thanks as usual go to the Holyport Club for hosting the event and to Neptune for their generous sponsorship. Also a special thanks to the Seacourt mums who laid on splendid lunches for all and local professional Angus Williams for all his hard work.
