From 10th-12 July, Radley College Real Tennis Club hosted the Young Professional Singles playing for the 'Ivan Ronaldson Trophy'.

Formerly the 'Taylor Cup' (renamed earlier this year), this competition was only accessible to professionals with fewer than three years of experience. This competition has been running since 1963 and has such illustrious names as Chris Ronaldson, Chris Bray, Nick Wood, Steve Virgona, Camden Riviere and John Lumley.

This year's competition had a particularly strong field. The format was selected to produce a ranking amongst the players by the end of play Sunday, every match was important and was hotly contested.

Renamed, of course, for the late Ivan, six of the eight entrants were graduates - or current trainees - of the IiP programme. This is testament to the fantastic work of the IiP and to the generosity of members of the Real Champions Club. It is fantastic to see these young players being given the opportunity to develop not just their own games but also their skill sets as young club professionals. It was a great tournament, played in fantastic spirit throughout, with the players clearly enjoying themselves - as the picture included here testifies. Well played all and particular congratulations to Vaughan Hamilton, who was victorious 6/4, 6/3 over Henry Henman in the final.
